Obituary for Philip Barber

Philip (Phil) Barber, age 75, was born on November 30, 1943 in Rome, New York. The son of Philip J. and Agata Barber, both deceased. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and attended schools, including Rome Free Academy, in Rome New York. He passed away suddenly on July 8, 2019, after years of physical disability. Phil was one of five children and has four siblings: Philomena Campbell (Rome, N.Y.), Andrew F. Barber (wife Anita) in Rome, N.Y., Frank Barber (wife Shannon) in Sierra Vista AZ., and Rosann Armstrong (husband William) in Phx, AZ.
On his 17th birthday, November 30, 1960, Phil entered the United States Air Force and served four years, receiving an honorable discharge on Nov. 30, 1964. While serving in the USAF, Phil married the love of his life, Susan H. Wrobleski, and together they had five children: Shelley Neighbors (1964) (husband A.C.) residing in Big Spring, Texas: Kelly Newsom (1966) residing in Los Cabos, Baja California, Mexico: Cindy Halford (1968) residing in Scottsdale, AZ: Philip F.(1970) (wife
Lisa and two stepchildren Zac and Lucas Moore) residing in Peoria, AZ and Melanie Thomas (1971) (husband Brad) residing in Fountain Hills, AZ. Phil's five children have bestowed him with nine grandchildren: Kimberly Blakley (Fountain Hills, AZ), Brittany McDowell (husband Scott) (Mesa, AZ) Anthony Neighbors, (Big Spring, Texas), Steven Bolton (Phoenix, AZ) Alexandria (Alex) Newsom, (Georgetown, TX), Hannah Barber (El Paso, TX), Amber Saiz (husband Joseph) (Big Spring, TX), Hayden Newsom(wife Makenna)(Clarksville, TN.) and Tiffany Halford (Scottsdale, AZ). Currently he has five great grandchildren: Cheyenne and Scarlett Blakley, (Fountain Hills, AZ) Marlon Neighbors (Big Spring,TX.) Hazel McDowell (Mesa, AZ) and Claire Saiz (Big Spring, TX) Phil had a special niece and Godchild, Kimberly (Kim) Fisher (Peoria, AZ) that he was very close to and who has helped him during his struggle with disability. He also has numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
While residing in Rome, N.Y. , Phil was employed by Carrier Corporation, Griffiss Air Force Base in civilian capacity and he owned and operated a landfill company. While residing in Hobbs, New Mexico, he owned and operated an Italian Restaurant (Pasta Villa) and a video gaming company. Once moving to Arizona, he was a dietary Supervisor at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital and owned and operated a shipping store (Mail Vault) in North Scottsdale until he became permanently disabled in 1993 following a failed surgery.
Phil's hobbies included coin collecting, following the stock market, cooking, gardening, and being an avid football fan. He was known for his spaghetti sauce, eggplant parmigiana, lasagna and other Italian dishes. He always managed to make the favorite dinner for each of his visiting children.
Phil was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the N.R.A(National Rifle Assoc.) and a member of the Church of St.Thomas More in Glendale, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the DAV, Phoenix Chapter located at 3333N Center Ave, Ste 1053, Phoenix AZ 85012 or
AZ Humane Society, or to the Church of Saint Thomas More in Phil's honor.
